Arsenic in rice?
On 19 September 2012, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released the preliminary results of their study looking at arsenic in rice. The FDA web page Questions & Answers: FDA’s Analysis of Arsenic in Rice and Rice Products, states that, "Based on the available data and scientific literature the FDA is not recommending changes by consumers regarding their consumption of rice and rice products." Test group briefings on OCS conducted at IRRI Headquarters
To introduce and support the significant changes that the One Corporate System (OCS) will bring to the Institute, two test group briefings were conducted at IRRI headquarters on 28 September and 1 October 2012. Norman Macdonald, Director for Management Services and chair of IRRI OCS Steering Committee, presented key principles driving OCS, a collaborative initiative among multiple CGIAR centers. Read more »

Grief that is deep and personal fills our heart this sad moment as our beloved Ildefonso “Kuya Boy” Cosico has peacefully closed the door of life and departed from us last Saturday, 29 September. From the words of Albert Einstein, he said, “the value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he is able to receive.” In one word, Kuya Boy was a man who gave.
